Mil relation--solved value
At 1000 m--metres subtended
Which mil is a red dot sight graduated in?
Almost always true milliradians rather than NATO mils. The difference is under two percent, which matters for precision work and not for observation.
Why not just use degrees?
Because a degree subtends about seventeen and a half metres at a thousand, which is not a number anyone wants to divide by under time pressure.
